The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is a statutory corporation, founded in 1990, whose mission is to invest in research and development for the greatest benefit to its stakeholders - graingrowers and the Australian Government.  The GRDC's research portfolio covers 25 crops, worth over $7 billion a year in farm production, alone.  These crops include wheat, barley, oats, sorghum, maize, triticale, millets/panicums, cereal rye, canary seed, lupins, field peas, chickpeas, faba beans, vetch, peanuts, mung beans, navy beans, pigeon peas, cowpeas, lentils, canola, sunflower, soybean, safflower, linseed.  You can learn more about the GRDC and its functions by visiting our Links page and clicking on the GRDC website.

2007

Due to the drought conditions, very little data was obtained from the trial sites in 2006.  Fortunately, GRDC has again supplied funding to continue this work in what was hoped to be a  more conducive season.  The areas to be examined this year include:

*  Precision row placement for disease management of cereals

*  Methods for quantifying and managing “in crop” nitrogen status for winter crops

*  Assessing crop establishment methods by comparing tine and disc sowing implements in zero till environments on grey clay soils

*  Effect of groundcover on the establishment of cereals

In addition to the above GRDC-funded work, IMAG will examine some other areas of interest, including:

*  Comparison of Raxil® and Dividiend® seed treatments on wheat establishment and final yield

*  Comparison of Jockey® seed dressing and Triad® fertiliser dressing on diseases in wheat

*  Examination of early fungicide applications on disease development in wheat

2006

In 2006, IMAG was awarded funding to undertake extension work for the GRDC under the Northern Agribusiness Trial Extension Network.  This work is designed to provide the link between researchers and growers by getting the latest research out into the paddock.  IMAG examined 3 areas of interest to growers by running the following trials:

*  Precision row placement for disease management of cereals

*  Methods for quantifying and managing “in crop” nitrogen status for winter crops

*  Assessing crop establishment methods by comparing tine and disc sowing implements in zero till environments on grey clay soils

Please click on the above links to learn more about these trials and the results obtained.
